Plymouth Hoe, our waterfront park, offers spectacular views of Plymouth Sound, one of the finest natural harbours in the world where you will see Naval Ships, cross channel ferries, sailing yachts and pleasure boats. Sir Francis Drake played his legendary game of bowls on Plymouth Hoe as the Spanish Armada approached.
Climb the 93 steps of Smeaton’s Tower, the magnificent red and white lighthouse which once stood on the Eddystone Reef 14 miles offshore. Designed by John Smeaton, it was dismantled in 1877 and re-built, in part, on The Hoe.
On a clear day if you look out to sea, you can see the remaining stump of its base beside the current Douglass Lighthouse. Ride The Wheel of Plymouth in one of the 42 fully-enclosed capsules reaching a height of 60 meters and offering views across the city to Dartmoor and Cornwall too.
